This past Saturday, the 21st of August 2010 was not only our seasonal meet up on Second Life, it also marked the 5th anniversary of the Doctor Who podcast, Doctor Who: Podshock. (We used our last meet up last May to mark the 25th anniversary of the Gallifreyan Embassy).
People from all corners of the world came together to have fun and to meet Doctor Who: Podshock hosts, correspondents, supporters, and other Doctor Who fans. As usual, Victor led the much anticipated TARDIS tours, a staple of our meet ups on Second Life in which he takes a TARDIS load of people to other Doctor Who themed areas of Second Life. This time, he even allowed me to pilot a Jon Pertwee style TARDIS for one trip. It was very exciting indeed.
The TARDIS Tours took us to Who Island which had a replica of Stonehenge with 'underhenge' which we discovered the Pandorica (and it opened)! We also got to see the console room seen in this year's 'The Lodger' episode and as always the tour concluded in the Doctor Who Museum. The virtual museum chronicles all of Doctor Who throughout its long history.
Below is a new general introduction video to The Doctor Who Experience on Second Life. It is the area we hold our seasonal Doctor Who: Podshock / Gallifreyan Embassy Meet Ups (we have one coming up next Saturday, the 21st of August 2010 by the way, see: Join Us in Celebrating 5 Years of Doctor Who: Podshock Wherever You Are! for more information). If you already attended our meet ups there or have seen the intro video Victor made specifically for our upcoming meet up (see: New Intro Video for Upcoming Doctor Who / Gallifreyan Embassy Meet Up on Second Life), then this video may be old hat for you. If you are brand new to Second Life and The Doctor Who Experience, then this video can be helpful to you. Remember you can enjoy The Doctor Who Experience anytime you like, not just during our meet ups there.
Victor1st was kind enough to create an updated video introduction to our upcoming Doctor Who: Podshock / Gallifreyan Embassy Meet Up on Second Life on Saturday, the 21st of August. See details here: Join Us in Celebrating 5 Years of Doctor Who: Podshock Wherever You Are! We hope to see you there celebrating 5 years of Doctor Who: Podshock!
It's summer for those in the northern hemisphere, and for many of us, it has been a hot and sticky one. Now is your chance to turn up the AC (or turn it down really) and join Doctor Who: Podshock hosts, correspondents, friends, and listeners in celebrating 5 years of the show without even leaving the comfort of your home!
There are no secret locations or handshakes needed. No long car or train rides. No worrying about parking or finding a seat. No worrying about what to wear (at least not in the physical sense). No worrying about travel fares, dinner checks, tips, or who paid for the last round. Just kick back in front of your computer with your favourite beverage and/or snack and join other Doctor Who, Torchwood, and alike fans coming together on Second Life. All at no extra cost to you.

Come together with other Doctor Who and Torchwood fans no matter where you are geographically located, all you need is broadband internet and a computer capable of running the free Second Life software.
Our seasonal meet ups are a fun and fantastic way to connect with other fans without even leaving the comfort of your own home. Each meet up has been grown larger and larger.
Over the past few months we have been discussing having some sort of special anniversary event to mark the occasion this year. You may remember last year we held an event in Manhattan for our 24th anniversary in which we paired up with a monthly DWNY meet up and brought the lovely Daphne Ashbrook (Dr. Grace Holloway from the 1996 Doctor Who movie) to the event. See Happy Anniversary to Us… for further details.
We would like to something special for our 25th as well. It would be an event in the NY area, perhaps on Long Island as that is where it all began, yet still be accessible to our friends in NYC. Maybe a dinner event? Would you be interested in attending?
It was a quarter of century ago today, as hard as it is for me believe, is when the Gallifreyan Embassy began. Unbeknownst at the time, it was the day after the Discovery Channel was launched. It was also the day after the launch of the space shuttle Discovery (STS-51-G) which marked the first Arab and Muslim in space (payload specialist Sultan bin Salman bin Adulaziz Al Saud). Yes, it was 1985. Ronald Reagan was in the White House, Commodore launches the Amiga personal computer while NeXT is founded by Steve Jobs after leaving Apple Computer.
Just two weeks before we went Back to the Future in the theaters, the Gallifreyan Embassy of Long Island officially began.
In honour of Sylvester McCoy returning to New York this month and the 25th anniversary of the Gallifreyan Embassy, we present you with this cut-down video of a WLIW pledge drive break from August 1987. At the time, like today, we had a new Doctor, the 7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, he along with the late Jon Pertwee and John Nathan-Turner, the then producer of Doctor Who are included in a pre-recorded interview segment in this 5th break of WLIW's Doctor Who marathon of The War Games. Eric Luskin of NJN conducts the interview.
Seen in this video among the Gallifreyan Embassy members volunteering is Ken Deep, and Louis Trapani of Doctor Who: Podshock, along with Tim Grogan, Beth Treckman, Pete "Bug" Reinert, PJ, "The Anti-Doctor", Monique, and others.
A screenshot taken from the video of the Gallifreyan Embassy working the 5th pledge drive break during WLIW's marathon of Doctor Who: The War Games in August 1987. It contained pre-recorded interviews with Jon Pertwee, Sylvester McCoy, and John Nathan-Turner.

The following is a reposted entry from my blog on the Art Trap Productions website.
A couple months ago, the Examiner posted a video interview of Doctor Who: Podshock consisting of Ken Deep, James Naughton, and myself conducted by Chris McKeon. This time, I am on the examination table so to speak in this latest interview with examiner.com once again by Chris McKeon. In it, I speak about Doctor Who, Doctor Who: Podshock, the Gallifreyan Embassy, and some of our other shows. This interview was conducted about two weeks prior (mid-March) of the BBC premiering the first Matt Smith as The Doctor story of new series of Doctor Who, The Eleventh Hour.
You can find the interview here on examiner.com: Louis Trapani of Doctor Who Podshock visits the Examiner again

Come together with other Doctor Who and Torchwood fans no matter where you are geographically located, all you need is broadband internet and a computer capable of running the free Second Life software.
All we ask of you is to be mindful of others who may not have seen the current episode of Doctor Who that will go out on that Saturday or the two episodes prior (most countries outside of the UK are two weeks behind).

Each meet up has been grown larger and larger.
In August 1987, WLIW, a PBS station in Long Island, New York ran the epic Patrick Troughton 10 part story, The War Games as a marathon pledge drive. The Gallifreyan Embassy was there volunteering on the phones throughout the six hour event. We have already posted the first pledge break of the marathon, here are three more, starting with the 4th break (after episode 5, they skipped the break after episode 4) which includes a pre-recorded segment with the then new Doctor, Sylvester McCoy and producer John Nathan-Turner (with NJN's Eric Luskin). Sylvester talks about landing the role of Doctor here.
In the background can be seen Ken Deep of Doctor Who: Podshock among other Gallifreyan Embassy members, Beth, Tim, Monique, Pete, PJ, and others. This pledge break originally ran 17 minutes, but it is has been edited down to under 10 for YouTube.
What better way to whet or rather 'wet' your appetite for Waters of Mars coming to BBC One on Sunday, November 15th by joining us for our seasonal meet up on Second Life the day before, Saturday the 14th of November.

The following day you may be busy watching and re-watching the long awaited next Doctor Who special, Waters of Mars starring David Tennant, but you got nothing going on the day before, right? Now you do!
Once again, our good friend, Victor1st at the Doctor Who Experience (Katrina) on Second Life has created an updated introduction video for our Gallifreyan Embassy / Doctor Who: Podshock Meet Up taking place on Saturday, the 15th of August on Second Life.
