A New World for Torchwood

Torchwood: The New World - Captain Jack

As reported in Doctor Who: Podshock, the Doctor Who spin-off series, Torchwood is being relaunched in the US on the Starz network.

The HollywoodReporter.com has an article reporting that name of the rebooted series in the US is Torchwood: The New World. Like last year's acclaimed Torchwood: Children of Earth I would suppose. It is to be ten episodes which to my understanding are telling a story much the same way as Children of Earth did with its five episodes run.

‘Torchwood’ gets new title: ‘The New World’: "Starz' 'Torchwood' reboot will be titled 'Torchwood: The New World' and creator Russell T Davies gave some insight into the storyline.

The new story will follow a CIA agent (Rex) and analyst (Ester) who tackle an alien-related global issue. Torchwood, having been destroyed and disbanded, is 'like a legend now ... it's like something that's ceased to exist and is now spoken of only in whispers.' Soon, Rex and Ester are on the run and are seeking out the help of Captain Jack and Gwen.

This Week In Doctor Who - July 24, 2010 (updated July 30)

This Week In Doctor Who and Torchwood This Week will not be producing a July 31 issue due to technical and travel issues. TWIDW and TTW will be back on August 7th. For most stations (particularly stations who made the information available), you should be able to extrapolate the Doctor Who and spinoff shows' schedules out to then from the July 24th edition.

July 31 would have been an interesting edition, since as far as I can determine, no countries on Earth were going to premiere new episodes of anything in the Doctor Who universes in the next week - we've all gone into repeats for the moment. But there were some developments of interest that I want to pass on:

Free Rose and Everything Changes

Apple iTunes is currently offering selected science fiction series premiere episodes for free. "For a limited time, download the first episodes of these series for free and own their first seasons for a great price"

Included in the offerings is Doctor Who (Rose) and Torchwood (Everything Changes (both SD and HD versions)). Other series include the recently re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series, Fringe, Heroes, Stargate SG-1, Eureka, Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Stargate Atlantis, Robin Hood, Star Trek: Enterprise, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Again, we don't know how long this will last as it only states "for a limited time" - so get them while you can.
