The Doctor regenerates on the way to Icon 31, rare Paul McGann appearance in New York

Paul McGann and Daphne Ashbrook
An unexpected change in the filming schedule for The Hobbit  means that Sylvester McCoy will no longer be able to attend for I-CON 31. But Icon quickly announced that Paul McGann will be joining them instead.

This is a very rare appearance by the actor that portrays the Eighth Doctor on screen and in the Big Finish audio adventures. He joins previously annouced guest and co-star Daphne Ashbrook.

There is a video message on YouTube explaining the change:

New York Comic Con is This Weekend at the Javits Center in NYC [VIDEO]

New York Comic Con is here again! October 13-16th at the Javits Center in New York. It's the largest east coast popular culture convention. Each year, it is growing in size and this year is no exception.

Get Your Geek On!

We have been attending each year and last year we recorded an episode of Doctor Who: Podshock live at the event to a standing room only audience with special guest Tony Lee of IDW Publishing (Doctor Who ongoing comic book series). You can listen to our live show from 2010 here: Doctor Who: Podshock 225. We would had done another live show this year at the event, but unfortunately, there isn't a Doctor Who guest there this year. Last year, Alien Entertainment brought over Daphne Ashbrook (Grace from the 1996 TV movie). Word is this year they are bringing Ian McNeice (Churchill) to their booth. You may recall, we interviewed McNeice earlier this year live on stage at Gallifrey One (see Doctor Who: Podshock 240.

Here is a little taste of New York Comic Con in this video from last year (2010):

Matt Smith Makes an Apperance at SDCC Prior to the Doctor Who Panel

Matt Smith appeared on a TV Guide Fan Favorite panel at San Diego Comic Con currently underway in Califronia, USA. On the panel, he mentioned in reference to the episode, A Good Man Goes to War that he thought the Doctor would had caught on sooner who River Song really was and he also mentioned that is all-time favorite Doctor is Patrick Troughton, the 2nd Doctor.

'Doctor Who': Matt Smith tells Comic-Con about 'Let's Kill Hitler' and River Song payoff - From Inside the Box - Zap2it: "The real "Doctor Who" fun doesn't start at Comic-Con until Sunday (July 24), when stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan join writer (and "Being Human" creator) Toby Whithouse and executive producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis for a panel in Hall H.

But that didn't stop Smith from making an early appearance at the TV Guide Fan Favorite panel, where he slipped a few teases about the upcoming second half of Season 6 and indulged in a little time travel fantasizing.

When asked about his favorite episode in his two-year tenure as the Doctor, he confessed that it's still to come. "The next episode... 'Let's Kill Hitler,'" says Smith. "[Creator] Steven [Moffat] is in fine form, and there's a great monster, which is important.""
