Doctor Who: The Next Doctor on DVD

The 2008 Christmas special, Doctor Who: The Next Doctor is scheduled to be released on DVD in North America on the 15th of September 2009. Oddly (but not Oodly), this comes approximately six weeks after the scheduled release of recent special Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead (available on the 28 July on DVD and Blu-ray).

The Next Doctor stars David Tennant as the 10th Doctor along with David Morrissey. The DVD has a suggested retail price of $14.98 in the US. This single-disc release will include a 60 minute bonus feature of Doctor Who at the Proms. The usual trailer, sub-titles, Dolby Digital 5.1 are included as well. No word about an audio commentary, but one is assumed to be included.

A Quick "Hello" and a Guide to Audible.com!

Just a quick "hello" to everyone and a big thank you to Louis and the guys for trusting me with this honor!

If you've heard the podcast I was lucky enough to participate in, you might know that I work in the film industry, and, after a horrible year, I've got a few projects that have come to the fore that are keeping me very busy.  So, this will have to be brief.

I just wanted to elaborate on the Audible.com info Ken and the guys have been giving on the podcasts recently. I've been a subscriber for years and years (I drive over 20,000 miles a year here in LA!) and have discovered lots of books beyond the Who range that might be of interest.  You probably know that Paul McGann and Tom Baker, particularly, have done a lot of audio books and radio drama between them, and some of them are available on Audible

Torchwood: Children of Earth UK Transmission Date

Torchwood: Children of Earth will be transmitted on BBC1 (in the UK) starting on Monday, 6th of July at 9pm. The mini-series will continue each consecutive night afterwards (i.e. Tuesday, 7th of July, and so on).

Mark Gatiss Documentary on Doctor Who Target Novelisations

Mark Gatiss leads a 30 minute documentary on BBC Radio 4 exploring Doctor Who novelisations published by Target books. The audio documentary, On the Outside it Looked Like an Old Fashion Police Box is available to listen to via the BBC iPlayer (it is available outside of the UK) for the next seven days.

It features interviews with Terrence Dicks, Anneke Wills, and Russell T Davies among others, as well as audio clips from various audio book adaptations.

BBC description:

The Eleven Doctors Special for Children In Need?

The Daily Mirror is reporting that all eleven Doctors will be coming together for a special one-off special for Children in Need this November. It reports that the 15 minute episode will be included in BBC1 annual Children In Need appeal in November and shooting of it will begin in September.

This is not the first time a rumour of this nature appeared in the tabloids. The same thing was said to be happening last year for Children in Need except with 10 Doctors which did not happen.

The article states that "images from their original shows, stretching from 1966 to 1974" will be used for the actors William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, and Jon Pertwee who have since passed away. They will make cameo appearances through footage from these previous episodes.

James Naughton Visits the Ian Todd Show

Ian ToddOur very own James Naughton of Doctor Who: Podshock is the guest in the hot seat in the latest episode of the Ian Todd podcast "Series 2". This humourous, off-centered, Series 2 podcast headed up by the "weird and wonderful" Sunderland based comic, Ian Todd features Simon Helberg of the Big Bang Theory, Micheal O'Keefe, and now James Naughton.

In Series 1 of the podcast, Ian had David Cross of Arrested Development along with various other guests. Be sure to check out both series, but first the James Naughton episode where he discusses reality TV, soft drinks, Doctor Who, and of course the Loch Ness Monster (running time 9:54):

Happy Anniversary to Us! 24 Years of Time and Space.

It was 24 years ago today, that the Gallifreyan Embassy was founded. It was a different world at that time. The current Doctor was Colin Baker. His stories had just started to make their way to the States. Doctor Who was being shown across the country in the US via local PBS stations. There was no BBC America, no Sci-Fi Channel (or "Syfy"), there wasn't even the World Wide Web then. There were conventions, both dedicated Doctor Who conventions and science fiction conventions with Doctor Who guests and many fans looking to meet and feed their addiction in between cons.

Australian Torchwood: Children of Earth Trailer References the Doctor

The latest trailer for Torchwood: Children of Earth shown on Australia's UKTV has Gwen Cooper references the Doctor.

On a related note, word now is that the BBC in the UK will be scheduling the transmission of the new five-part mini series, Torchwood: Children of Earth now between the 4th - 10th of July. If this is the case, it goes against the previous information of the BBC and BBC America showing them during the same week.

With only a few specials left before the 11th Doctor begins a new era. Are you avoiding spoilers?

io9 Publishes "Spoiler" Image

An anonymous source has provided io9 an image which appears to be a video still grab (as the image appears to be interlaced).

We will avoid the spoiler information here. It does confirm at least one casting rumour we have reported on recently in Doctor Who: Podshock. It also confirms another casting/character rumour that has been long bandied about concerning the climax of the 2009 specials.

The article on io9 by Charlie Jane Anders also mentions the title of the one of the actors pictured and the character's wardrobe lends credence that the title may be true as well. If so, it opens up other possibilities and confirms what many have been conjuring over the last few years.

An Introduction to Our Second Life Meet Ups

As previously announced, our Second Life meet ups are now seasonal. We will be holding them on a regular basis. Last month, we had our very successful Second Second Life Meet Up which took place after a long gap without any. Victor1st of the land of Katrina on Second Life prepared a video that introduced Doctor Who fans to the Doctor Who Experience on Second Life. He had also created a new one specifically for those attending our meet up.

Although our Second Second Life Meet Up was last month, this video still serves as a good introduction to Second Life for our upcoming meet ups. Our next will be in August. We thank Victor for making this greeting and tour for those attending our meet ups there.
