David Tennant and Georgia Moffett Reunite in Doctor Who: Dreamland
As reported yesterday, the BBC has released the first image from the upcoming animated story, Doctor Who: Dreamland which is scheduled to be broadcast later this year.
Earlier this week we had the pleasure of interviewing the director, Gary Russell for Doctor Who: Podshock (stay tuned for future episodes featuring his in-depth interview) who spoke to us about this second outing of an animated 10th Doctor adventure. Gary had also directed The Infinite Quest which also starred David Tennant as the 10th Doctor along side with Freema Agyeman playing Martha Jones.
Gary revealed that this six-part animated series will see David Tennant reuniting (on Doctor Who) with Georgia Moffett (last seen in Doctor Who playing the title role in The Doctor's Daughter episode from 2008) playing the role this time of Cassie Rice, a new companion.
He also explained that he wanted David Warner (who previously starred a Big Finish Doctor Who: Unbound audio drama) in this adventure. Warner was resistant at first playing baddie, but he eventually came around and stars here as the leader of the ruthless Viperox.
Dreamland will debut via the BBC Red Button on BBC One and the Doctor Who website (we can assume it will most likely be locked down to UK visitors).
Like the previous animated adventure, The Infinite Quest, it will also be shown on CBBC (the Children's BBC) in its 45 minute long entirety as well as on the BBC HD channel this autumn.
Phil Ford has penned this story which is set Roswell, New Mexico (US) which has become known for its alien activity.
After running into an unknown alien artifact in a local diner, it leads the Doctor on a rescue mission to save Rivesh Mantilax from the Viperox as well as the American military.
The animation is produced for the BBC by Littleloud, a Brighton-based company that has given this animated adventure a different look than what we saw with The Infinite Quest.
Joining Gary Russell as director is Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner, and Piers Wenger as executive producers.
"Dreamland is a remarkable project and I'm thrilled with it. Phil Ford is a wonderful writer and promises to send the Doctor into a whole new visual dimension," Russell T Davies said of Dreamland.
