Welcome, as This Week In Doctor Who gets closer and closer to being back on schedule. Once you get off schedule, it gets tricky to get back to schedule. Thanks to everyone for bearing with the recent publication problems and the ones that may occur one week this fall when I move.

Now, I did this in the months before Doctor Who returned in 2005, and it seems only appropriate to do it now. The official cast list for the 2010 Doctor Who series:

The Doctor: Matt Smith
Amy Pond: Karen Gillan

UK - BBC Three is running an apparently new Doctor Who special on Thursday 20 August at 8PM BST. It is titled Doctor Who Greatest Moments: The Doctor. This is excellent news for Doctor Who And The Silurians, as this means that Doctor Who - Doctor Who And The Silurians is no longer the oddest looking Doctor Who title. Here's hoping the special is good fun for all who watch.

New Zealand - Prime TV has purchased the final David Tennant Doctor Who episodes - The Waters Of Mars and the 2 part finale. This is good news, except that I thought Prime had already bought The Waters Of Mars. Oh well.

For press releases on Doctor Who, keep an eye on the BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media http://www.c21media.net .

Listings for North and South America are in This Week In Doctor Who Western Hemisphere. Sarah Jane Adventures, K9 and Podcasts are in This Week In Doctor Who Spinoffs. Torchwood info is in Torchwood This Week.

Corrections and updates are welcome at thisweekindoctorwho-owner@yahoogroups.com , http://www.twitter.com/bfelliott , TWIDW on AOL IM , and thebfe on Yahoo Messenger. The listings:

The Guide to North and South American Doctor Who TV Listings

USA - BBC America http://www.bbcamerica.com has decided to bring fans a lot more Doctor Who. Just not on the linear station. BBC America On Demand (carried by better digital cable on demand lineups, not carried by DirecTV or Dish Network) will begin providing 4 to 6 episodes of Doctor Who (2005 onwards) per week, with episodes available for 3 to 4 weeks. It begins this Monday August 10 with Rose through Aliens Of London. While most of BBC America On Demand's shows are current firstrun BBC America programming, they often carry a show not currently on the regular lineup (Coupling had a video on demand only run for a while). Doctor Who did not air on the On Demand service during BBC America's previous runs of the episode, probably because SciFi Channel had the primary rights to the show at the time. Thanks to the readers who spotted a Doctor Who page that appeared on BBC America On Demand recently.

USA - Doctor Who - Series 3 (The Runaway Bride and the 13 episode 2007 series with Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones) are now distributed to Public TV stations by BBC Worldwide Americas, not American Public TV. Series 4 also seems to be available to buy - start date for Series 4 on Public TV stations is unknown. BBC Worldwide Americas also distributes classic Doctor Who to stations.

The public TV stations known to have bought The Runaway Bride and Series 3:
WXXI 21 Rochester, NY
WTTW 11 Chicago, IL (currently in first run)
WGVU/WGVK 35,52 Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI
WILL 12 Urbana, IL
WTVP 47 Peoria, IL
Iowa Public TV
Idaho Public TV
Wisconsin Public TV (currently in first run)
Milwaukee Public TV
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT
OETA Oklahoma
KLRU 18 Austin, TX
Alaska Public TV
WSKG/WSKA 46,30 Binghamton/Elmira, NY (currently in first run)
KERA 13 Dallas, TX (currently in first run)

Now, I am confident that there are more stations with rights to Series 3 than that. But these are the stations who have contacted me or scheduled the show. Unlike previous years, we are in the dark till a station comes forward or new Who appears in their schedules.

Series 2 is currently available to public TV stations in an American Public TV package until March 31, 2010. For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have bought the rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required to do so. American Public TV is no longer offering Series 1 - I do not know if BBC Worldwide Americas will offer those stations to public TV stations now or not.

2 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor Who run (1963-1989), but not New Who. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA is airing Peter Davison episodes. WHRO 15 Norfolk, VA is airing Tom Baker episodes.

We've been away for a bit, so - Sarah Jane's current status:

UK - Series 3 will be on BBC One and CBBC this fall. No start date yet, but starting in late September like Series 1 and 2 would be the easiest way to do it.

USA - Since Syfy has not purchased Series 2 or 3 of Sarah Jane, we have no idea when or if the episodes will reach our TV screens. No network has mentioned that they are buying the show yet. Yes, BBC America has been sent e-mails and twitters asking if they'll step forward.

CANADA - BBC Kids has not mentioned any plans to pick up Sarah Jane Series 2. Instead they've been getting themselves dropped from some cable systems. No other network has mentioned if they want Sarah Jane in Canada.

Radio Free Skaro http://www.radiofreeskaro.com
The 3 Canadians (Warren, Steven, Chris) get together on the weekends for about an hour or more to discuss the latest in Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane in a fairly amusing manner. When one is away, the 4th Canadian (Katrina) will play. Or will she - Katrina and her friend Nat have launched a spinoff podcast called "Bridging The Rift".
Current Episodes:
#151 - "Killing Time Before The Waters Of Mars" - A two hour broadcast (which they somehow think is epic length - no doubt their official biographer has a few stats) covering Doctor Who and Torchwood chatter. The first week of filming, Comic Con. Oh, and their commentary for Planet Of The Dead.
#152 - "Fax The Betamax" - The return of Spoilor as Radio Free Skaro come to grips with less news and a break from commentaries.
Coming Soon:
Episode 153 - "The Ghost Of Robert Holmes Takes A Nice Cup Of Tea". The Happiness Patrol installment of Radio Free Skaro (by traditional math - I hear somebody has Reimagined the story numbers recently). A new "miniscope" feature will take 5 minutes of each show to look at the Doctor Who career of a musician, actor, writer - somebody connected to Doctor Who. This time is part one of Robert Holmes' turn under the miniscope.

DWO Whocast http://www.thewhocast.com
Trevor from Australia and Marty from the UK talk Doctor Who with themselves, others, and teddy bears dressed as doctors. Now with a rock version of the opening theme, the Whocast continues to ask the questions that pop in to their heads. Regular correspondent - James. Frequent guest - Michael of the Tin Dog podcast.
Current episodes:
#129 - News headlines and a review of The War Games.
#130 - News followed by feedback - most of the feedback covers Torchwood: Children Of Earth.

Tin Dog Podcast http://www.tin-dog.co.uk
UK based podcast looking at the latest in Doctor Who, Torchwood, or Sarah Jane Adventures. New episodes ever 2 weeks or so.
Current episodes:
#96 - Michael examines the DVD of Mawdryn Undead and takes a second look at Torchwood: Children Of Earth now that the miniseries is complete. Has time helped him come to terms with the shocking changes in a show he liked the way it was before?
#97 - Terminus hits DVD. DVD goes "ouch".

West and other Doctor Who fans liked the live Doctor Who: Podshocks so much that they wanted to keep talking afterwards. The resulting show covers Doctor Who, anything else sci-fi related, and can go wildly off in all directions. Show founder West has alerted Dave AC and West that he will return full time to hosting duties with episode 101. Chats open 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Current episode - 100. Dave AC and Ian retire as the regular guest hosts. Final episodes of TV shows are discussed. And could we have celebrity guest appearances?
Next airdate unknown.

Dave AC and Ian have guest hosted CIA so much that they developed a taste for doing it themselves. So they are launching their own show starting Sunday 2 August. Now the two shows will be side by side, one after the other for twice the chatting on twice the topics. Chats open 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
Already Online:
Episode 1 - Beginnings! Pilots! The gang discuss pilots, the episodes that sell TV shows, but don't always get to be part of the show they are selling.
Upcoming episode:
Sunday 3:30PM EDT/12:30PM PDT/8:30PM BST - Episode 2.

Two Minute Time Lord http://twominutetimelord.com
A bite-sized commentary and revew show. Host Chip's interest was rekindled by the 2005 revival. He believes in balancing old fandom and new viewers, respect for the past and breaking the rules. He tries to keep his pontifications to 120 seconds, because we're ALL in a hurry these days.
Current Episodes:
#52 - Why I Follow Doctor Who. Chip has reasons why he follows Doctor Who. And he'd like some of us to send in audio with one sentence reasons why we follow Doctor Who too.
#53 - Final Thoughts on Torchwood, Fandom, and Choices. Chip looks at the darkest series of Torchwood and the darkest sides of fandom.

Staggering Stories http://www.staggeringstories.net
A wild, wandering podcast with Doctor Who and the other flavours of the moment winding together roughly once every 2 weeks. The website's main focus is on stories collected through the years.
Current:
Episode 51 - "How Much Wood Would A Torchwood Torch ...?" Staggering Stories runs 90 minutes this time as many segments give way to a look at this year's Torchwood - radio plays and Children Of Earth. Meanwhile, the Head Of Pertwee has reason to feel like he's being ignored ...
Coming around 16 August - Episode 52 - I'm suspecting a look at Red Dwarf based on twitter noises.

The Flashing Blade Podcast http://www.flashingblade.org.uk
Tony Gallichan returns to podcast land with new podcaster Jo! to look at Doctor Who and matters of interest. Tony grew up with UK fandom and knows all the cliches. Jo! - didn't. Flashing Blade wants to be known as the podcast that would like a nice cup of tea.
Current episodes:
8. The two part finale to the new series of Paul McGann audios. The revenge of The Leisure Hive. Plus some tea.
9. An extended episode with a look at the companion chronicles story "The Mahogany Murders" and a serious look at the health dangers involved in watching "Dimensions In Time". Ok - maybe not all that serious.
Coming soon - the 10th episode spectacular!

Bridging The Rift http://bridgingtherift.wordpress.com
Katrina (Radio Free Skaro) and Nat launch a new show bringing the worlds of Doctor Who fandom, Torchwood fandom, Sarah Jane Adventures fandom, K9 fandom, and other areas together. Each week - a special guest co-host.
1. Torchwood: What Happens Next? After the end of Torchwood: Children Of Earth, does the show have a future? Should it have a future? Katrina, Nat, and guest host Liz from "A Teaspoon And An Open Mind" ponder this and have some rather good ideas for a 4th Series, if anybody in the production office feels like listening to this episode and finding inspiration. Also, some Trock music.
2. 11th Doctor 1st Filming Photos. Katrina, Nat, and guest host Eric (from the Radio Free Skaro panel show believed to have spawned this podcast) contemplate what we know about the new Doctor and what we want to believe. Also, some Trock music.

The Minute Doctor Who Podcast http://web.mac.com/backintheussr6/The_Minute_Doctor_Who_Podcast/Podcast/Podcast.html
Video (sometimes just audio) podcast looking at Doctor Who projects. Episodes are usually under 5 minutes long.
Current episodes (all 3 of these are video):
18 - What Do You Think I Believe RTD? - a podcast about faith and Doctor Who.
19 - More About Faith In Doctor Who - I think I know the content, but having trouble playing this one at the moment.
20 - Cricket - Luke gives a rather detailed breakdown of how Doctor Who explains the rules of cricket. The game almost made sense to me after watching this one, and that game has NEVER made sense to me. And as I said on Twitter, I'm guessing the Doctor learned about cricket in his 3rd incarnation while exiled on Earth - the planet was getting invaded 4 or 5 times a year, and those stories were taking a week or less each in real time. The Doctor needed other things to fill up the rest of each year.

Live editions Late Fridays 1AM EDT/10PM PDT/6AM BST every couple of weeks
Robert Carrie King reviews Doctor Who topics (DVDs and news, mostly) on this Talkshoe program. Frequent cast member on CIA: Cultdom In Audio.
Most recent episode - July something. Episode 40. City Of Death and Silence In The Library DVDs form the basis for this discussion.

The Tennantcast http://tennantcast.com
Kelsey, Kari, Flossie, and friends get together to dish on the latest David Tennant news.
11 - More Is Less. Kelsey is absent, searching for a place called Scotland. In this shorter than normal episode, Kari, Flossie, and George hold down the fort.
Coming Very Soon - 12. Chris Burgess of Radio Free Skaro alerted me that this episode would be up by Saturday morning. Just like this column, it missed the deadline. Or at least Tennantcast missed the deadline if you had iTunes. Rumors of a special guest. No, not me.

The Wailing Fangirl http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/22228
Samantha (Romana 2) explores Doctor Who and fandom in Australia, sometimes with the aid of the ladies of the Gallifreyan Time Love Brigade. Frequent cast member on CIA: Cultdom In Audio.
Current episode - 9. Convention coverage from March 2009, when Samantha met Peter Davison and Mark Strickson.

A Podcast Of Impossible Things http://podcastofimpossiblethings.blogspot.com
Cardiff-based Doctor Who fans get together to discuss the latest Doctor Who and do a full length commentary on new Doctor Who episodes.
Current episodes:
Full length commentaries on Torchwood: Children Of Earth episode 1 and Torchwood: Children Of Earth episode 5.

Bigger On The Inside http://www.earth-2.net
Mike and Dan decide to do their own podcast exploring each Doctor Who story in broadcast order. It is a very different style from Jonathan's. Again - can they pull it off? Part of the Earth-2 family of podcasts. Warning - explicit language (swearing). If your headphones leak any sound at all - do not listen at work.
Current episode - 18 - Power Of The Daleks. A new Doctor arrives. Mike approves.
Coming soon - 19 - The Highlanders and The Underwater Menace.

Hoo On Who http://hooonwho.com
Fan reviews of recent Doctor Who DVDs by David Hooie, frequently with a guest co-host.
Current episodes:
#11. An Unearthly Child. The first story gets featured as David launches a new RSS feed.
#12. Battlefield. David comes into this story planning to like Battlefield a great deal. I won't say he comes away hating it, but his reaction is rather mixed. I think Battlefield is the best story of that season and would say so on the air too, but I do understand what concerned him.

The Cloister Room http://thecloisterroom.com
Tom Dickinson begins a solo Doctor Who podcast effort with short shows on short subject that get to the point, bulldoze through the point, back up to ground the point down some more, then flee the scene before the police arrive.
Current episode - 2. "Oh Captain, My Captain!" Tom looks at the life of Captain Jack Harkness, trying to reconcile his Doctor Who and Torchwood adventures into a unified storyline.

Tim's Take On ...
Tim Drury's podcast on various issues. Still checking it out at press time. Available on iTunes.

The Big Finish Podcast http://www.bigfinish.com/podcast
Big Finish podcasts at least once a month to discuss their Doctor Who and other projects (Sapphire and Steel, Stargate (!), Dark Shadows, Bernice Summerfield, etc).
Current episode - Charley Pollard special. Three new audios starring the 6th Doctor (Colin Baker) and Charley (Isla Fisher) are coming soon. This has inspired the Big Finish team to throw a party and have Ms. Fisher in as a guest. Really can't explain why without spoiling it all - you'll have to tune in. And if you're Red Green, expect to learn a new use for Duct Tape in case you ever bring your show back to TV.

Tachyon TV http://www.tachyon-tv.co.uk
Irregular and irreverant podcast looking at the world of Doctor Who with a funhouse mirror and coming out the other side holding a plush toy that wasn't really the one you wanted but you'll keep it anyway because you can give it to your girlfriend to impress her. It's that kind of show.
Current segment - a short appeal by "Rula Lenska".

MMM Commentaries/Fantragic http://www.mmmcommentaries.com
Roving Australian podcasting gang, including Trevor from the DWO Whocast. Commentaries on Doctor Who episodes, Star Wars films, some Stargate stuff, and others. The Frantragic episodes look at Doctor Who and other sci-fi news. Fantragic episodes are on a different iTunes feed from MMM Commentary episodes.
Current Doctor Who episode - Journey's End. If the description in the iTunes tag is anything to go by, this running commentary on the Doctor Who Series 4 finale will not have a happy ending..

The Two Doctors http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thetwodoctors
call in number (718) 664-9807

I am anxious to see if SyfyHD will air the new series episodes cropped or not.

If SyfyHD airs any of the newer Doctor Who (we don't know if BBC America's new contract allows other networks to buy in later, and we don't know if Syfy is willing to buy Doctor Who for second run), then it won't be cropped. It will be letterbox on the standard definition channel. The Next Doctor would have the silly box on all sides on the HD channel. Planet Of The Dead onwards would be in proper HD filling the screen on the HD channel.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
