Sam Hodges the Head of Communications confirmed that Series 7 of Doctor Who has been comissioned, with Matt Smith returning as the Doctor.

Later in the day Steven Moffat also confirmed it via Twitter with the following statement.

"14 eps + Matt DEFINITELY. I've got a plan and I'm NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS.

Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun."

Rumours also abounded, as it was bounded about that Sir Terry Pratchett may write the S7 star writer episode. This was emfatically denied by Sir Terry, saying that his "Very Important Meeting" was for something else completely also via twitter.

So this means 1x Christmas Special 2011 and 13 Episodes in 2012 now as to whether Doctor Who gets an Autumn start is still being speculated and will be announced after Pt2 of Series 6 airs in the Autumn.
