Podshock? There's an App for That!

Administrator - Posted on 28 September 2010

Stay on top of your favourite podcast, plus get bonus exclusives with the new DW Podshock Companion App for the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad. It is an inexpensive way to help support the podcast while keeping up with news, podcast episodes, the Twitter feed, and exclusive content available through the app.

It is a universal app, so it runs in native resolution on both the Apple iPhone/iPod touch as well as the iPad. When you launch it, you will see a splash screen featuring the familiar faces of the podcast hosts. From there you can explore news stories, podcast episodes, the latest on our Twitter feed ( @Podshock ), and exclusives just for the app (these are different than DWP Extra Edition episodes).

There are additional features planned for upcoming versions including background listening of the podcasts (for those running iOS 4.x or higher), and more. There were some initial bugs that had been ironed out and others will be addressed as well shortly.

We received requests for the app on other platforms (i.e. Android, Blackberry, etc.). If possible we would like to bring a similar app to these other platforms in the future, but currently it is only available on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad platform.

It is available now in the App Store within iTunes (see link below) for only $2.99 (US). Thank you for supporting the podcast through this app.

Hi Guys,

Is there any chance of a similar app for we Android owning Whovians? I'd love to have access to the app and would be happy to support Podshock if I could.

Hi Steve,

Thanks. As we said above, hopefully in the future we will have a similar app for other platforms, including Android. We would need to find platform specific developer/coder to work on such a project with us though.

Very sorry for the obvious question. I have a terrible habit of scanning articles too quickly (obviously!!).

More screenshots have been added for the Doctor Who: Podshock Podcast Companion App for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad (available now in the iTunes App Store).

Please note that the app is still being updated, so these screens may change as the app is updated. One example is the episode playing screen. Due to a bug fix in a recent update, certain features such as episode scrubbing had to be removed temporarily, but are set to return in a future update. These features are not represented in the screenshots added today.

There is an update waiting in the wings for the DW Podshock Companion app. We had some trouble with its release (not with the app itself, just with the process of preparing it and releasing the update).

The upcoming update fixes some problems with the player (restoring previous features originally in the app) and it enables background playing (it requires iOS 4.x).

Due to some roadblocks encountered, this update may be delayed until Apple releases iOS 4.2 for the iPad.

Version 1.1.0 of the DW Podshock Companion App is now available in the iTunes App Store. It is dependent on iOS 4.x, so iPad users hold on until Apple releases 4.2 (very soon now).
