Many have been asking about Doctor Who: Podshock and our other ATP shows in the wake of the devastation left by Superstorm Sandy. Recovery continues though our shows should be resuming shortly. I posted this latest blog entry about it. See the link below.
Sandy Aftermath Day 338: It's been "a year from hell" recovering and restoring from the mass devastation which Superstorm Sandy caused. There's still a great deal more to do, though it's getting closer to where a sense of "normality" will prevail while ongoing recovery work continues. This means our shows will be resuming shortly including Doctor Who: Podshock and perhaps a new one or two as well.
Anthony Burdge here, editor/author of The Mythological Dimensions of Doctor Who. I would like to offer a bit of an update from my end about our new book, and our book signing event, plus our review of Ken Deep and James Naughton new podcasting venture: Doctor Who: An Occasional Podcast.
Firstly our first two books, The Mythological Dimensions of Doctor Who and the award winning The Mythological Dimensions of Neil Gaiman have been re-published under the Myth Ink Books publishing imprint. Our publisher Kitsune Books closed on 12/31/12 and both are now again available via Amazon and other online booksellers, plus for your Kindle devices as well.
L.I. Who guest Daphne Ashbrook on the big screen in Manhattan this Saturday at 1pm! The 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie with Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Daphne Ashbrook, Yee Jee Tso, and Eric Roberts at the Paley Center For Media.
L.I. Who will host a Gallifreyan Embassy reunion panel plus a meet and greet of members past and present on Sunday afternoon November 10th 2013.
The final schedule isn't complete for the first Doctor Who convention on Long Island in over twenty years, but the reunion is slated to take place sometime that afternoon.
The very special guest of honor at L.I. Who will connect the convention with the beginning of Doctor Who history fifty years ago. It is the legendary director of the first episode "An Unearthly Child" and the missing historical classic "Marco Polo".
He is the subject of the upcoming BBC America co-production "An Adventure in Space and Time" written by Mark Gatiss. The drama chronicles the early days of making Doctor Who.
In his long career, Waris has worked with Hollywood legends like Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, and Bette Davis. He is a renowned storyteller and he makes a rare convention appearance at L.I. Who to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who.
Sylvester McCoy is OUR Doctor this November 8-10th at L.I. Who!
The Seventh Doctor himself and the star of The Hobbit makes his return to Long Island for the first time since 1999.
He joins previously announced L.I. Who guests Daphne Ashbrook, Frazer Hines, and Ian McNeice. Tickets are on sale now.
Here's an update on the ongoing storm recovery:
I have a computer workstation setup now for me to record and edit while my place is being gutted out and made inhabitable again. I haven't tested everything out yet, but I suspect I should be able get work done. The biggest roadblock now is carving out the time that is required. Demolition of my place won't start until I clear everything out of it. So after fifty-some-odd days of clearing out waterlogged destroyed belongings and trapped sewage water in my place, now I have to clear out all the rest (the non-damaged stuff) so the floor, walls, ceiling, etc. all have to be gutted out and replaced. This task falls upon me. Since storage space is limited, I also need to take care (and time) to maximaze every inch while packing up. I also need to trash any remaining furniture that may have mold and trash belongings that I no longer want which I have no space for in storage.
I had hoped to have the episode 282 of Doctor Who: Podshock (recorded just prior to Super-storm Sandy) out by now. It is slowly going through post production now, but it is taking longer than I hoped because I am doing so many other things at the same time (relating to recovering from the storm, not to mention my sister being hospitalized).
Thanks for all the concern expressed by all of our listeners... We will return once we are back up and running after the major set back caused by Hurricane Sandy...
On October 29, 2012 we were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. In addition to not having power, heat, phones, net, etc. for almost two weeks, we were flooded with sewage water. Three and half weeks later, we are still expelling destroyed waterlogged stuff and trapped water from the premises.
Louis is posting a 'Daily' video from his time recovering from Sandy - most recently he talks about getting power back - on day 14!
To see these videos checkout his 'Trapped on Earth' Tumblr account
In case there are members here that don't follow Louis on Twitter or Facebook - please note Louis is mostly offline due to the terrible effects of Hurricane Sandy.
Although he is OK but very tired , he and some members of his family have been lashed by this freak event which has caused great damage.
As well as water ingress he is without power or internet and is conserving his iPhone for emergency use.
Our thoughts are with you Louis and your family plus of course the millions of others struggling in those badly affected States.
Best Wishes, daveac
It is my hope you all are well. As some of you may know over on my own blog "Comfy Chair" I started sometime ago an archive of a Doctor Who fanzine "Morbius." I have a huge interest in fanzines as a whole but especially those regarding Doctor Who & Tolkien, even more specific fanzines from groups in the New York area. The Doctor Who fanzine "Morbius" is not entirely from the NY area but it is where I got my start in collecting Doctor Who fanzines.
My post today is concerning the fanzine of the Gallifreyan Embassy "Ambassadors of Life," which ran until the mid-1990s if I am not mistaken. I have a few issues courtesy of Louis and Ken but wish to expand my personal archive. Ideally I would like to create a digital archive for my own collection and am not set to make it public unless I gain specific permission from Louis.
