THE RELUCTANT STOWAWAY
Maureen: Dr. Smith, you shouldn't be here at all
Smith: Precisely the point I've been trying to make without much success I might add.

I know people complain about WARRIOR'S GATE being confusing but really this might be more. In any event, Adric works incredibly well again in this ep and with this Doctor. The whole thing is somewhat explained. The Doctor wants to fix the chamleon circuit by measuing a police box on Earth so abandons his plans to go to Gallifrey, which Adric seems keen on going to...Adric is also keen on learning and for this, I figure, he wants to go Gallifrey. A Tardis appears inside the TARDIS and this is always dangerous (I think it happened in THE TIME MONSTER or the threat of that happening was about to be carried out...it's been a long time since I saw that one and maybe once I reach the end of the McCoy stuff it'd be time to go back and do Jon Pertwee again!). Anyway once that is done, they will go to Logopolis to sort it all out.

Blink, Rose, Father's Day
I showed some younger people BLINK, ROSE, and FATHER'S DAY today or mostly BLINK and bits of ROSE's start and a chunk of FATHER'S DAY. It was interesting to note their responses. The boys, as usual in the US, were more interested in DW than the girls. One boy intially saw some of DW on PBS (yes, the Chris episodes were on channel 21 in the US for a very SHORT time with cut down confidentials!) thinking it was a James Bond movie! In any event, they seemed quite bored by BLINK until the main event, when the DVD is explaining to Sally what was going on and the statues attack Sally and her boyfriend. In truth it doesn't really get going until that scene but the build up makes the ep and that sequence so much better. I began ROSE and oddly enough, perhaps after the set up of BLINK, they were glued to the screen until time ran out on the viewing. Another group watched BLINK but were totally not into it. I shut it off and one young man wanted to see the ending.
DIARY OF A TIME LORD: by John Peel
if this magazine/calendar weren't mentioned in the fourth season retrospective book MONSTERS INSIDE, a good book in and of itself, I wouldn't have known of its existence. John Peel writes an entire diary of the Doctor from Doc One to Doc Ten featuring all his adventures from TV in diary format with photos from the show(s) and some great artwork. It goes up to the end of some story where the Titanic crashes into the TARDIS (perhaps the lame Master triology ending, an even lamer ending tagged on but whatever). To be honest the idea of a diary written by the Doctor himself is a great one. Unfortunately by including EVERY ADVENTURE leaves little room to elaborate on the Doctor's thoughts in any great depth about any one of them as it's just move on to the next detailing of the adventure. Still it's nice to see this trying.
